The Mercury newspaper reported the opening of the new church at Montagu Bay:
MONTAGU BAY CHURCH - Community purposes served Following the opening of the Montagu Bay Church on Sunday a concert was held in the Hall on Tuesday night ... The Rev. G.M. Scandrett said that for nearly two years he had looked forward to the building of a church at Montagu Bay. The building would be of value as a community centre for the district, and trusted that residents would use it to the best advantage.
Built of weatherboards this building was sold in 1966 to the Church of England, it became St James' Church. The building was listed for sale in 2018 and sold in 2019
