Overview

Early maps of Hobart Town record and area of 1 rood and 14 perches on the Hobart Town Rivulet in the lower part of Collins Street was reserved for the Catholic church.

Reserved for the benefit of the Roman Catholic Community to be used as a Temperance Hall and a Sunday school & occasionally for a place of Worship. Whence the building ceases to be used for the above purpose the land to revert to the Crown. Vide Col. Sec. Letter 17th April 1850 No. 4294.

The map records Archbishop Daniel Murphy as the purchaser and in red ink the land was acquired for the General Hospital, a 1900 map records this block of land is now part of the General Hospital, Hobart.
