Overview

A public meeting was held at Mr. Murphy's residence to discuss the erection of a Protestant Union Church at Forest in April 1891. A Quarter of acre had been secured from the Van Diemen's Land Co. at the junction of the Back Line Road and South Road, it was agreed the sum of £100 would need to be raised or promised before the building commenced.

The Forest Union Church was opened on the 10th June 1894, the building was to be used as a place of worship and Sunday School. Measuring 30 feet in length and 20 feet in width, it had 10 feet studs and was fitted with four gothic windows, 2 on each side. The gothic designed door was situated on the western side, it measured 8 feet high and 5 feet wide, opening onto a porch. A platform on the east end was 5 feet wide and 18 inches high, with an organ and desk placed on it. The seats with backs were made of pine and measured 13 feet long, they were placed across the building. The roof was of iron and all credit was given to the builder Mr. H.C.E. Medwin.

The Forest Christian Centre now occupies the building.
