Swan Bay Methodist Church Hall

Swan Bay is a picturesque location located on the east side of the Tamar River north of Launceston. On August 6th, 1922, the Methodist Church Hall was opened by the Rev. G.N. Wheaton and was described as being situated on a beautiful spot overlooking both the road and river. The land was donated by Mrs. C Coward of Swan Bay and the church hall was built by Messrs. S. and C. Coward, T. Beck, H. Taylor, and J.J. Stevenson who all worked for free. On the day of the opening, local ladies organized stalls with various goods, refreshments, and a jumble sale. The evening was filled with enjoyable musical performances and a supper. The Sunday service was conducted by Rev. G.N. Wheaton and the total funds raised from the event amounted to £118-18-7, which allowed the church to be free of debt with a small credit in the bank.

The Examiner newspaper reported on the 8th December 1931 the following:

Not far from Mr. Samuel Coward's residence is the Methodist Church, erected about a decade ago on Mr. Coward's property.
