Overview
The Rev. D. Morris officially opened the Southport Congregational church on Sunday 4th May 1879, preaching two services that day with a large crowd in attendance.
Rev. J.M. Bailey, one of the oldest Congregational ministers in Tasmania re-visited some of his old churches in February 1916, it had been 29 years since he was last in the district.
I n October of 1923 a fair was held at Hastings in aid of the new Congregational church at Southport and in December 1925 a well attended service was held to celebrate the anniversary of the church.
