Glen Huon Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

The new Church of The Latter Day Saints at Glen Huon was opened on Saturday afternoon 15th February 1927 in the presence of a large congregation visiting from all states of Australia and America.

The building is set in a commanding position, and is constructed of weatherboard. It is 46 feet long and 26 feet wide and cost approximated 900 pounds. The roof is constructed of strips of felt like material, which when placed in position shows a diamond shaped shingles of varying colours, red, green and brown, the whole harmonising in a unique colour scheme. It is the first of its kind in Tasmania and was a gift from an American donor.

The church was first established at Glen Huon some 30 years previous with services being held in the public hall.

In the course of progress, the venerable weatherboard structure was supplanted by a contemporary edifice. Subsequently, in the month of June in the year 1990, an additional wing was annexed to the new building, further extending its capacity and utility.
