Youngtown Methodist Chapel

The first Primitive Methodist Church at Youngtown was built in Victoria Street on land donated by Mr. Purse in 1859.

Advertisement in the Launceston Examiner, Saturday 17th September 1859:

PRIMITIVE METHODISTS. - Their first Connexional Chapel in this colony, at Young Town, will (D.V.) be opened for divine service on October 9th instant, when the Rev. J. Langham and others are expected to take part in the dedicatory services. The aid of a generous public is respectfully solicited.

In March 1949 the unused West Tamar church at Craythorne was moved and re-erected at Youngtown near the Methodist Church.

The Sunday School was being used for services but became too small. When the trustees generously offered the Craythorne building it was gratefully accepted. On Sunday afternoon the 27th March 1949 the Rev. G.T. Inglis (Chairman of the Methodist Assembly) conducted the opening dedication.
