Overview

The first church was built in 1890 at a cost of £250, it was a wood and iron hall that could seat approximately 150-200 people and situated in the main street.

The foundation stone for the new building was laid by Bishop Mercer on 9th November 1907 with a large congregation of well wishers. The structure, in Belstead Street was to be built of concrete using local mine tailings and would seat over 300. The building was designed by Mr. Alexander North.

On the 11th August 1909 the church was dedicated by the Archdeacon of Launceston, the Venerable A. Beresford and ably assisted by other Clergy. Because of the flourishing silver mines the building was free from all debts in a short period.

During the early 1970s an idea came about to use the church for exhibiting a local artists (Kent) painting, this would benefit the community as well as the proceeds going towards the church restoration fund.

When the church closed, it was decided that St Luke's church would be restored and used to benefit the whole community.

This building has recently listed for sale.
