The Australian Council

for the

Mission to Seafarers Inc.

The Australian Council oversees, supports and encourages the work of every Mission to Seafarers (MTS) centre around Australia. We strive to promote an atmosphere of family, a sense of service and solidarity among those in maritime ministry, and strengthen ties between Australian and international MTS centres to reinforce our global MTS family and support networks.

We maintain a close connection and friendship with MTS International Headquarters in London on behalf of all MTS centres in Australia.

At each biennial conference, six representatives are elected from the MTS Centres to serve on the Council on a voluntary basis. The Council also employs a National Executive Officer to coordinate and organise the executive work of the Council.

The work of the Australian Council is guided by the Constitution and Canons of the

Anglican Church of Australia.

Our Mission

Mission to Seafarers Australia actively responds with loving care to the many challenges and dangers faced by seafarers.

Our 27 Australian centres give seafarers a chance to:

-connect with their loved ones and children, often for the first time;

-mentally and spiritually recharge for the next leg of their voyage; and

-access medical, welfare, and chaplaincy services.

We work closely with Australian Government agencies and port users to improve the treatment of seafarers and shipping practices in Australian waters.
