This building was formerly the Presbyterian church at Tunbridge.
Rev. James Hebblethwaite was the Minister at Taranna in 1898, he succeeded Rev. J. Bufton who had been in the area since 1892.
By 1930 the Peninsula was divided into districts known as Home Missions with a minister stationed at each place. The Taranna pastorate included Eaglehawk Neck, Koonya, Nubenna, Port Arthur and Saltewater River.
