Overview

The Salvation Army had a presence in Zeehan during the early 1890s. The Zeehan and Dundas Herald stated that in March 1891 Captain Grimes was in charge at Zeehan. In those days they would all gather in a field, open air meetings were popular with both the Salvation Army and the Primitive Methodists. By 1898 a Barracks had been built, an 'Indian Demonstration' was advertised in the paper in the Barracks.

The Salvation Army band consisted of around twelve members who travelled throughout the district.

In February 1902 the Examiner newspaper stated that a new Barracks had been constructed and was situated in Frederick Street. The building was reportedly built in a record 6 weeks by a local contractor.

After the early 1920s no advertisements or mention of the Salvation Army in Zeehan appear in the newspapers.
