Overview
The Ragged School Movement started in Britain during the mid-nineteenth century, because of the growing number of urban poor. Ragged Schools provided vagrant, neglected and destitute children minimal education.
Old School as Church
The old ragged School building in Darcy St., South Hobart, in which church services are being conducted by members of the Young Men's Christian Association. The school, which was established about 1863, was closed about 25 years ago (1912).
