Overview

Point Puer Convict Boys Prison was established in 1834 and closed in 1849.

... The Junior Ward is occupied by the younger boys and it has a yard in front which is surrounded by a high wall. This building was originally erected for and used as a Gaol. It is now in use as a Chapel for the Roman Catholic boys on Sundays and a School on all other occasions at which time the Protestants and Roman Catholics are separated. But in the day School no distinction of religion is made.
In the evening, the Protestants are under tuition of their Catechist in the School room; and the Catholics in that of the Junior ward under a Catechist of their creed.. The average age of the boys is about fifteen ...
