South Launceston Salvation Army Citadel

The original Salvation Army Hall in South Launceston was a wooden construction. The Officers quarters consisted of a five roomed cottage with verandahs at the back and front.

A small allotment of land is attached. The whole place is furnished tastefully, and presents a very cosy appearance. As well as the hall near by, this building was transported from Deloraine and erected some time ago.

The dedication and opening was performed by Brigadier Garbutt on the 25th March 1922 with a large crowd in attendance.

The wooden building can still be seen behind one of the early photographs given to us by Major Rob Cassidy.

SALVATION ARMY TO BUILD NEW CITADEL

A new Salvation Army Citadel is shortly to be erected in Galvin Street, South Launceston at a cost of £1200 , the building will be in brick, measuring 48ft. by 26ft. and will consist of a single large hall, equipped with a speakers dais and platform.

The wooden hall was moved to behind the new Citadel, then used as a band room and hall for the young people.
