Oyster Cove Punishment Station Chapel

Oyter Cove Punishment Station was situated at the head of a small bay and inlet of the D'Entrecasteaux Channel close to Kettering. It opened in 1844 and closed 1847. Oyster Cove was another of the Punishment Stations.

Plans for a female convict probation station to be built at Oyster Cove did not eventuate. Tenders were called in November 1843 for stores to supply the station which held a party of 80 men and to be increased to 300 men by the end of March 1844.

Convicts were originally sent to collect building materials for a penitentiary, because the land was unfit for agriculture.
