Overview

Dorothea Henslowe states in her book Our Heritage of Anglican Churches in Tasmania the following about the McRae Hills Anglican Church

(Longford Parish) There is a property of this name near Saundridge and one can only presume that it is this to which Church News refers In December 1852. Stone of wooden church laid at McRae Hills Longford, given by J. Pooler. It is doubtful if it was ever completed.

No further record of this church being built has been found to date. In 1854 a Mr. John Pooler, a gentleman, aged 35 years died in the district of Longford - this could possibly be him.

Further research on John Pooler uncovers the fact that Rev. Mr. Tancred refused a Christian burial for Mr. Pooler because his death was suicide. John Pooler was afflicted by a nervous complaint which assumed the appearance of inebriety.
