Chudleigh Salvation Army Hall

The Salvation Army began its mission in Tasmania in the year 1883, marking its inception with a service held within the Primitive Methodist Church located on Collins Street, Hobart. This igathering was led by Captains Ballard and McCrow, alongside Lieutenant Arnold. By October of the same year, a public announcement declared that the organization had established its headquarters in Launceston, specifically within the Y.M.C.A rooms situated on St John Street.

In April of 1889, Chudleigh witnessed a period of significant construction activity, with several new buildings rising within the town. Among these was the Salvation Army Barrack, prominently situated on Jones Street.

A certain publication erroneously claimed that the Salvation Army established a citadel in Chudleigh in 1878. However, this is inaccurate, as the Salvation Army did not establish its presence in Tasmania until the year 1883.

The hall, originally erected as a Salvation Army center in Chudleigh in 1889, was dismantled and reassembled in Invermay, Launceston, in 1947.
