St Helens Wesleyan Methodist Chapel

In the mid-19th century, the St Marys - St Helens Methodist Home Mission Circuit was formally established.

In October 1889, the foundation stone for the new Wesleyan Methodist Chapel in St Helens was ceremoniously laid.The "neat wooden building" was officially dedicated on Sunday, December 16th, 1891, with morning, afternoon, and evening services led by Reverend W. Presley. This structure was noted as the first Methodist church to be erected beyond the town of St. Marys. A Christmas Fair was advertised for December 1891, with the purpose of raising funds to alleviate the debt on the Wesleyan Church.

An advertisement published in the Launceston Examiner in 1892 announced that a distinct building was to be designated for use as a Wesleyan Chapel in St Helens. This building once occupied the current site held by the Uniting Church.

Jubilee celebrations were held in September 1939 with a visit from Reverend A.R. Gardener, Chairman of the Northern Tasmanian Methodist District, he was accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. E.C. Robertson, who contributed musical selections to the occasion.

This church was replaced with a modern brick building.
