Bicheno Community Church

A wooden church building was started in 1882 exactly one year after its inception. The Allen family set to work splitting the shingles for the roof and selecting timber for the building. The construction was carried out by Messrs. William Allen, cabinet maker and Alfred Allen a carpenter. The opening service took place on 10th December 1882.

The Tasmanian Presbyterian reported the following:

The Church, which is of wood, rests upon a substantial granite foundation, and is built and braced together very firmly, in order to withstand the heavy gales which are occasionally felt on the East Coast. It is lined with pine, stained and varnished, and when properly seated, will accommodate about 150 people ...

The land for the church was donated by Mr. Marshall, however no official evidence of ownership existed, so, a Formal Identification of Ownership, document was drawn up and dated 10 December 1902.

In April 1968 an extension was approved by the Glamorgan Council.

While this church was first attended by the Presbyterian congregation it is used by the Anglican's and has since became truly ecumenical with the Catholic's using it for Sunday Mass.

In May 2024 this church was expected to be decommissioned in the future.
