Upper Burnie Methodist Church

In February 1950 the Waratah (Magnet) Methodist Church was moved using a semi-trailer by F.H. Stephens Pty. Ltd., to Upper Burnie, where it was to be re-erected. The trip was arduous, the road conditions and rain made the trip longer than expected. The building measured 25ft long and 12ft wide, was made of wood and iron. The interior fixtures were expected to follow. The cost of the removal was reported to be about £600.

The land for the church and parsonage was donated by Mr. A.B. Clarke. Work on the building was mostly undertaken by voluntary labour with Rev. G.P. Lassam playing a prominent part under the leadership of Mr. J. Johnston, it took almost two years to complete.

The official opening was on the 2nd December 1951 was attended by 160 people including the Burnie Warden Cr. R.O. Powys. Mr. E. Heazlewood, one of Upper Burnie's prominent Methodists was invited to unlock the main door of the church. A short service was then held.

Studio 2Eleven, Burnie Coast Art Group purchased the building in September 1985 and is still used by them today.
