Cambridge Uniting Church

While not proven, tradition claims that the chapel was designed by James Blackburn the famed convict architect. Early records regarding the erection have not been found. The following advertisement Murray's Review 6th January 1843.

Independent Chapel , Cambridge -The Foundation stone of the Independent Chapel about to be erected at Cambridge (in the district of Richmond) will be laid on Monday next, the 9th instant, at two o'clock in the afternoon. The Rev. J. Beazley will deliver an address on the occasion. - For Colonial Missionary Society Frederick Haller

The building is described in the Australian Heritage Database as follows:

An excellent example of a small rural chapel with adjacent graveyard which represents the early history and development of the area. The design has been attributed to James Blackburn, the architect responsible for other churches in the Gothic picturesque style.

A small, simple Gothic style chapel of squared and coursed sandstone. It has a Gothic arched central doorway with label moulding and three arch topped windows along each side. The roof is a simple gable and front has corner buttresses with decorative stone turret cappings. Includes a fine old graveyard.

The Chapel was opened and dedicated on Easter Monday 17th April 1843.

On the 22nd June 1977 the Methodist, some Presbyterian and almost all of the Congregational Union amalgamated under the banner The Uniting Church of Australia, this Chapel was one of them.
