Campbell Town Wesleyan Chapel

In 1839, the first Methodist Chapel of Campbell Town was erected, marking a significant moment in the town's religious history. The modest structure, measuring only 130 feet by 17 feet, was completed free of debt, a testament to the generous donations from the local community. Among the most notable benefactors were Captain and Mrs. Horton of Somercotes.

By 1841, the congregation had expanded significantly, necessitating the addition of extra seating to accommodate the growing number of worshippers. This rapid growth culminated in the construction of a second, larger building in 1846, which stands prominently in front of the original chapel.

To accommodate the ever-growing congregation, a large gallery was constructed in the second chapel. During the 1864 jubilee of the Australian Wesleyan Methodist Church, funds were raised once again to build an even larger chapel. Notably, local storekeeper Joseph Brickhill emerged as one of the most significant donors. As a result, the Brickhill Church on High Street opened its doors for worship in 1880.

The original chapel was repurposed into the residence for the chapel keeper, while the second building underwent modifications to serve as a Sunday School, reflecting the community's ongoing commitment to religious education and worship.
