Overview

The inaugural Baptist service in Deloraine was held in 1859 by Reverend Henry Dowling, who journeyed from Launceston to officiate. A chapel was subsequently erected on Barrack Street. From 1863 until 1873, Reverend Jesse Pullen conducted services there, serving as the principal minister during this period.

The Launceston Examiner reported that the foundation stone for the new Baptist Tabernacle was laid in June 1880. The opening ceremony took place on Sunday, December 5th, 1880, with an estimated attendance of between 300 and 400 individuals. Mr. Gibson of Perth generously donated the Tabernacle to the Deloraine congregation, he also provided the seating, fencing, and other necessary furnishings. The total cost of erection was £1000.

In June 2024 this church was still in use.
