Mona Vale Private Chapel

Mona Vale is a large property near Ross granted to the Kermode family

The delightful stone chapel is situated close to the residence, which has been described as a 'noble mansion' and comparable to any stately home in England. The mansion built for Robert Quade Kermode was designed by his brother-in-law architect William Archer and built from locally quarried stone. An article written in January 1868 describes a visit to Mona Vale by His Royal Highness, The Duke of Edinburgh.

The original homestead at Mona Vale was built of timber. Wendy Burbury in her book 'Education at Ross - A History' states that there was a Bush Chapel School in existence for about thirty years, it was then moved to the Chapel Cottage, beside the Chapel in 1856.

It is believed the current chapel was built in the mid to late 1860s at the same time as the residence. This chapel is still used on special occasions.
