Overview
The first recorded meeting of this group was in February 1913, at the time they rented a room in Miller's Chambers in Murray Street. As the congregation grew they moved several times into larger premises.
Christian Science was officially recognised in Tasmania on 30th July 1923, when the group was received into 'The Mother Church', the first Church of Christ Scientist, Boston Massachusetts, U.S.A.
The Mercury newspaper reports:
OPENING OF NEW CHURCH - The imposing new church erected in Brisbane Street to the order of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Hobart the first built in Tasmania, will be opened to-morrow for the fist time for public worship.
Dedication of the First Church of Christ Scientist building in Brisbane Street was in May 1940. Christian Science churches are not dedicated until they are free of debt.
