Overview
The foundation stone was laid on 20th February 1920 by Mr. R.W. Shoobridge, a large congregation gathered from the surrounding districts to witness the event.
The building was constructed of white freestone from the former Government stores at Saltwater River coal mines penal settlement. The freestone was a generous gift from Mr. George Long and was ferried across Norfolk Bay to the site. The church is a memorial to those who served in the Great War of 1914-1918.
The cost to build the church was £750 and all but £66 had been raised. The building was valued at £2,000. The contractors were Messrs. Norman Wright and son of Claremont. The church measures 48 feet in length and 23 feet wide, with a porch and vestry six feet square. The roof is made of iron and painted grey. Facing west is a handsome stained glass window a gift from the Scrimger family.
It was opened and consecrated by the Bishop of Tasmania, Dr. R.S. Hay on the 15th February 1925.
The Catholic church was sharing with the Anglican's.
This church is on the December 2018 Anglican list to be sold.
