Overview

Architectural plans for the Watarah Presbyterian Church dated 20th May 1913 are held in the Van Diemen's Land Company files in the Archives of Tasmania. They hold other records for this church dating between 1913 and 1924.

On Tuesday 2nd December 1913 The Mercury newspaper reported that the Presbyterian Church at Waratah had opened their new church with the Rev. John Walker from Ballarat conducting the services. A satisfactory turn out attended despite the inclement weather.

By the mid 1920s the church was only mentioned once in the newspaper and that was an advertisement on the 8th May 1920 saying the Rev. H.H. Donaldson would be conducting services morning and evening at 11am and 7pm.

The Mercury newspaper in April 1940 stated:

*The Rev. F. C. Bremer, connexional

secretary in Tasmania, has reported

that he has obtained men for all the

home mission stations except

Waratah.

Presbyterian Mission.*
