Overview
Around 1861, land at Dairy Plains was donated to the community for the construction of a church, which was designed to accommodate 60 people.
However, no definitive records have been discovered to confirm the 1861 date mentioned in the book Tasmanian Methodism 1820-1975. The earliest documented reference to the church appears in a newspaper report from January 1878:
Public School for Dairy Plains stating that there was a 'want' for a good school for the area. Mr Shorey was willing to donate a piece of land opposite the Wesleyan Chapel.
In April 1896, the Daily Telegraph newspaper reported that a hurricane-force storm had demolished the Wesleyan Church at Dairy Plains, near Deloraine, the previous morning.
In 1919, the Wesleyan Methodist Church located at 190 Dairy Plains Road was acquired by the Church of England for £40 and subsequently renovated to meet their specific requirements.
The Google image taken in October 2023, shows this church has been well maintained and in good order.
