Overview
This historic property Mount Pleasant is situated at Luxmore Place, South Launceston and was owned by John Crookes, an evangelical merchant.
John Crookes lavish mansion and outbuildings were started in 1865 and was constructed using mixed architecture, the most prevalent is Corinthian with a number of fluted columns.
The chapel is described as
Neo-classical with romantic arbour (or grotto) linked by brick wall with arched opening.
In the 1874 the property was purchased by merchant and successful businessman Henry Reed, who was a Wesleyan evangelist. Reed is buried in a private vault on the property.
