Overview
The Tasmanian newspaper, dated 27th June 1891, reported the following:
The new Roman Catholic place of worship for Beaconsfield (Church of St Francis Xavier) is now completed, and will be opened by Archbishop Murphy today.
A foundation stone for the chancel (and extended section) was laid by Dean Beechinor in June of 1899. An evening concert was held in the Victoria Hall in aid of the church funds.
Over the years fairs and other events were held for the upkeep of the building.
