Zeehan Primitive Methodist

The first Primitive Methodist minister in Zeehan was a Scotsman named John Nairn who arrived on the 19th May 1891. Early meetings were held in the open air with the preacher situated in the centre on an elevated platform or in the Wesleyan church.

The Zeehan and Dundas Herald reported the opening in June 1891.

The Primitive Methodist will open their first church on Zeehan next Sunday, when services will be conducted by the Rev. J. Nairn. The building is situated in the Main-street, opposite Honiballs.

Alterations and additions were added in 1897 and their small chapel was sold In the 1940s the larger building was moved to Queenstown where it was used as a temple for the Buffalo Lodge.

Between 1892-1902 there were four Primitive Methodist ministers: Rev. J. Nairn, Rev. J. Bennett, Rev. H.W. Frederick and Rev. J. Williams.

On the 1st January 1902 five Methodist denominations: Primitive, Wesleyan, United Free, Bible Christian Church and the Methodist New Connexion formed the Methodist Church of Australia.
