Ulverstone (Gravel Hill) Primitive Methodist Church

Regular services were held in Mr. Daniel Lines home in 1862, later they were held in the home of Mr. Joseph Stratton.

Gravel Hill Primitive Methodist services were held in a small 'hut' in August of1866.

A little chapel was under construction in December 1873 and was nearly completed, it was expected to accommodate about 150 people, the land was given by Mr. W. Mason Esq.

Sunday-School anniversary sermons were conducted by Colonel Wilson in December 1887, it was reported that the little chapel was crowded to excess both morning and evening. Morning tea and evening supper was provided for the well attended services. An evening tea meeting was held in the Gavel Hill church in October 1890.

A church history written in the Advocate newspaper in 1924 relates how Mr. Joseph Stratton of Ulverstone attended the opening of the church in November 1873, he recalled it was called the Gravel Hill church for 28 years. The timber was cut from the Cornhill Estate at Mutton Flats and built with the assistance of Mr. Eustace.

The building was relocated to Gawler, under the heading of WAYSIDE JOTTINGS in the North West Post newspaper in November 1901:

The old Primitive Methodist church, so long at Gravel Hill, looks better than ever, it having been recently lengthened and well set up on a good stone foundation ...

The building was moved to Turners Beach in 1972 and used as a Sunday-School . In recent times the building has been converted into a private residence.
