Overview

On the 13th December 1870 an article appeared in the Cornwall Advertiser newspaper about a building called the 'Gospel Hall' having being recently opened at Youngtown close to the toll gate. Rev. J. Lindsay was reported to be preaching at the Gospel Hall at Kings Meadows three days prior.

Rev. James Lindsay was the first minister of Chalmers Church in Launceston. Lindsay held many early services in and around Launceston, some were: Wycliffe Chapel, Temperance Hall and the Baptist Chapel. There is a memorial plaque dedicated to Rev. James Lindsay in the Pilgrim Uniting Church, Paterson Street, Launceston.

Around this period there was a toll gate at Kings Meadows near Riseley Street, with some confusion about Kings Meadows, Sandhill and Youngtown. The conclusion is the toll gate - Youngtown, Kings Meadows and Sandhill are one in the same.
