Longford Uniting Church

On Wednesday, the 17th December 1879, Mrs. Edward Archer, a notable figure from Northbury, Longford, ceremoniously laid the foundation stone of the church. This pivotal moment marked the commencement of a significant architectural endeavor, one that would shape the spiritual landscape of the community for generations to come.

Following months of meticulous planning and laborious construction, the church opened its doors to Divine worship on Sunday, the 18th of July 1880. A vibrant congregation, eager to partake in this momentous occasion, gathered within its walls to bear witness to the inaugural sermon delivered by Reverend F. E. Stephenson of Campbell Town. The resonance of his words echoed through the sacred space, imbuing the atmosphere with a sense of reverence and solemnity.

Remarkably, upon its grand unveiling, the church stood as a testament to the collective dedication and unwavering support of the community, as it was free of any financial burden or debt. This achievement underscored the unity and commitment of the congregation, highlighting their shared vision for a place of worship that transcended material constraints.

The meticulous planning and execution of this architectural endeavor were overseen by the esteemed architect, Mr. H. Conway of Launceston. His vision, combined with the skilled craftsmanship of builder Mr. Thomas Humphreys jun., culminated in the realization of a structure that surpassed expectations. Despite encountering unforeseen alterations to the original plans, the church's completion remained steadfast, albeit at an increased cost of £1,067.
