St Joseph's

The foundation stone for St Joseph's Catholic Church was laid and blessed by the Most Rev. Dr. William Barry, Archbishop of Tasmania on the 15th May 1927. The church opened on the 13th November of that year.

A large congregation attended the opening. The church was described as handsome brick building (the first brick building in the district). The builders were Jones and sons from Wynyard. Costs for the new church included : £88-06-06 for the land, £50 for the altar (this was made of Tasmanian blackwood in Melbourne), requisites for the altar £20. The seating was £88 and £21 for the picket fence. The total expenditure was £1321-14.

Statues for the church were donated by the Carty family. The Carty family lived on the road to Oldina and walked to Mass every Sunday.
