Kirklands

The first Presbyterian services in Campbell Town were held under the trees beside the Macquarie River.

Of simple design this kirk was dedicated on the 2nd October 1836, with the Rev. John Mackersey conducting the first service assisted by J. Garrett.

Originally the plans showed the building to be a third larger. with high wooden back walled enclosures including seats around the inside for the use of convicts. The pews and doors were all made of cedar, with a roof of thatch.

Centenary celebrations were reported in the Mercury newspaper in 1929.

While no longer in use, this building still marks the landscape and has stood the test of time.
