St Andrew's

In October 1854, it was reported that the local government had allocated land for the construction of a Presbyterian church. A gathering was organized for those interested in this endeavor, set to convene at Mr. James Johnstone's Great Western Hotel on Friday, October 20th. The purpose of the meeting was to deliberate and plan the necessary steps for clearing, fencing, and preparing the land for its intended use.

An advertisement in the Cornwall Chronicle in early November 1855 announced that the 'Chambers Presbyterian Church' would open on the Sabbath, November 11th, with services at 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. conducted by Rev. R. K. Ewing. This initial structure was a small wooden church.

In July 1883, architect Harry Conway of Launceston called for tenders for the erection of a new church, with plans available for viewing through Mr. Wilkinson of Deloraine. By November 1883, the foundation stone had been laid by Mrs. J. McNeece, and by June 1884, the small Gothic-style brick building with a gabled corrugated iron roof was officially opened. The cost of the building was £610, partially offset by £6-10-0 raised from the sale of the old wooden structure.

When the Uniting Church of Australia (UCA) was formed on the 22nd June 1977 between the Congregational, Methodist & Presbyterian Churches of Australia this church became part of the union and meeting took place at 13 West Barrack Street.

The old church has been advertised for sale several times since 2006 and has been converted into a private residence.
