Overview

Originally constructed by the Anglican Church and opened in 1929, the building was purchased in 2015 and became known as St Mary’s Coptic Church.

The Coptic Orthodox Church, established in the 1st century by Saint Mark, is among the world’s oldest Christian denominations. Rooted in Egypt, it is distinguished by its enduring traditions and its profound historical contribution to the development of Christianity.

Headed by the Pope of Alexandria, recognized as the spiritual leader of Copts across the globe. Today, the Coptic community represents the largest Christian denomination in the Middle East and North Africa, with an estimated 10 million members residing in Egypt alone.
