Launceston Gospel Hall

This building was listed in the Tasmanian Heritage Council as follows:

It is a one storey brick chapel building with geometric shaped parapet and windows with stuccoed mouldings.

... it is of historic significance because of its ability to demonstrate the principal characteristics of a single storey brick inter-war Art Deco style building for religious use.

The Gospel Hall opened in April 1939. A series of well attended meetings were held over the weekend of the 8th and 9th of April. Mr. R. Ernest Smith in his address outlined the growth of the assembly, tracing it back for over 60 years.

Plans for the Gospel Hall were lodged with Council in late 1938, to be built by H. Martin. It opened in April 1939 and was used by a Brethren community for around 70 years, and sold in 2013.
