Deloraine Gospel Chapel

The Christian Brethren, also known as the Plymouth Brethren, originated in Ireland and England during the 1820s. By the 1850s, the movement had extended to Australia. In the 1870s, evangelists Brown, Perris and Moyse conducted revival meetings in Tasmania

By the late 1870s, congregations typically gathered in 'gospel halls.' The north-west coast remained a stronghold. The movement was particularly well-suited to rural areas, emphasizing weekly communion, believer's baptism by immersion, Bible teaching, and evangelism, including participation in overseas missions. The Brethren have employed various methods for evangelism, including radio broadcasts, literature distribution, and crusade meetings.

The Deloraine Gospel Chapel was originally constructed in the 1970s at 113 Emu Bay Road. Mr. P.S. Priest was appointed to oversee the congregation. This initial structure was eventually succeeded by the current building located at 46 Parsonage Street.
