Overview
Barrington holds significant historical importance as the birthplace of Methodism within the Sheffield Circuit.
Two Wesleyan Methodist churches were established in Barrington: one located at Lower Barrington and the other at Upper Barrington.
The initial church at Upper Barrington was constructed in 1870 but tragically succumbed to fire in 1884.
A replacement church was promptly erected and inaugurated in January 1885, marked by three services conducted by Rev. R.W. Thompson at 11am, 3pm, and 7pm. This establishment continued to serve its community robustly over the next century.
During a visit in 2003, the church had been sold and repurposed into a private residence.
As of 2019, the building operated under the name Barrington Church B&B, reflecting its transformation into a bed and breakfast accommodation.
