Herrick Presbyterian Church

Visiting Presbyterian Minister Mr. J. C. Jones suggested that the old unused Springfield church building be purchased and moved to Herrick. Land was provided by Mr. Tom Peters and with the assistance of Mr. Jack Salter (a builder) the building was on its new foundations.

On the 16th December 1952 the North Eastern News reported the following account:

On Saturday, a large crowd gathered in the newly erected Presbyterian Church for the opening and dedication service, which was conducted by Rev. E. McLean Shugg.

The church was recently removed from Springfield and erected at Herrick. Rev. A. J. McAdam of St Stephens, Launceston, Mr. N. Griffin, Scottsdale and Deaconess V. J. Beel assisted.

Improvements were made over the years, new weatherboards, windows and an extra room added to the back containing a fireplace and iron chimney.

Problems arose on the departure of Deaconess Beel, between the Presbyterian Church and members of the Winnaleah Bible Study Group. The result was its closure in 1958.

In 1990 the church was purchased by Mr. Tom Peters who used it as a farm store, he in turn donated the building to the Evangelical Presbyterian Church for a school in 1991.

The Herrick Presbyterian Convent School formed a committee under the Evangelical Presbyterian Church.
