Gardeners Creek Methodist Church

The opening of the Wesleyan Methodist Church at Gardeners Creek took place on the 28th September 1893, with a large crowd in attendance. It was a wooden structure with a pretty design, and able to accommodate 100 people.

The following extract is from Frank Bolt's book 'Vanishing Tasmania'.

Methodist Chapel, Gardeners Creek 1893. After using their chapel for decades the original founders died; a depression came and then a War, all good reasons for people to leave the district. Services ceased in 1941, after which the building lingered on for another while till it was finally taken down in 1987 for other use elsewhere. Photo 1986.

Note: Frank Bolt and The Mercury newspaper both spelt it as Gardeners/Gardener's Bay, while The Listmap spells it as Gardners Bay without the 'e'.
