Collins Street Church

In 1861, The Mercury reported that the Primitive Methodist congregation had acquired the Knox Free Church, situated in Lower Collins Street, to serve as their new place of worship

In April of 1914, the former Primitive Methodist Church was sold for the sum of £2,250 to Mr. William Teniswood, acting on behalf of the Daily Post Limited. This transaction marked the transfer of the property from religious to commercial use.

The original church has been integrated into the new development, with a contemporary structure now standing at the front of the site, effectively concealing the historic building from view

This is a two storey brick rendered Post -War style building. The roof is shielded by a parapet, and there are four

multi-paned round arch windows with tracery on the first floor. On the ground floor there is a round arched side

doorway, next to this are two modern rectangular windows also set in under round arch mouldings. The paint scheme

effectively highlights this architectural detail.
