Overview

The first service took place in the building on St Matthias' Day 24th February 1889 by the Rev. Canon G. Banks Smith. It was then known as Queenborough Church Hall.

A meeting was held in the church hall at Queenborough by the parishioners of St George's Parish, it was decided that the building would be known as St Matthias' Hall, They were shown plans for additions, these provided for a temporary chancel divided from the hall by folding doors, and also vestry rooms. Other renovations included the ventilation, renovating the front hall and remodelling the approach with rustic stone walls.

After the Mariner's Church was re-erected in Queenborough in 1918, it became known as St Peter's Anglican Church, St. Matthias Church Hall was then sold to the Baptist Church.
