Reflecting on its origins, the timber church, erected amidst the verdant hop vines in 1904, stands as a testament to the generosity and pioneering spirit of R.W.G Shoobridge, a luminary in the annals of the Derwent Valley's hop-growing tradition.

The dedication of land and resources by Shoobridge, coupled with an expenditure of £380—a princely sum in its era, equivalent to approximately $50,000 in today's currency—attests to the profound commitment invested in the church's construction. Over the span of its existence, St. Augustine's has served as a sacred haven, nurturing cherished memories and spiritual bonds among the denizens of the region.

However, as the winds of change swept across the ecclesiastical landscape, the fate of St. Augustine's took an unforeseen turn. Amidst a broader initiative to address historical injustices and provide redress for victims of abuse within the Anglican Church, the decision was made to list the church for sale. Thus, the stage was set for a solemn yet necessary rite—the de-consecration service—a poignant occasion slated for Sunday, March 6th, 2022.

The Mercury newspaper 5th June 2024 states this building swas purchased by developer Mr. David Marriner.
