The establishment of Anglican worship in Nugent finds its humble beginnings in the local state school, where the inaugural services were conducted. However, as the community's needs grew, aspirations for a dedicated place of worship emerged.

In the year 1898, a spirited social gathering was convened in Mr. Blackmore's barn, aimed at raising funds for the construction of a church in Nugent. Mr. Thomas Blackmore, a prominent figure within the community, played a pivotal role in spearheading this endeavor, lending his support to the realization of this cherished aspiration.

The fruits of these collective efforts materialized in the form of a modest wooden church, consecrated with solemnity and reverence in March 1901. This sacred sanctuary stood as a tangible testament to the steadfast dedication of the congregation and the enduring spirit of faith that imbued the community.

Intriguingly, a black and white photograph housed within the Tasmanian Archives bears the caption 'Mrs. Hacks wedding, Nugent Church,' purportedly dated to 1896. However, upon closer scrutiny, it becomes evident that this information is erroneous. The church itself was not erected until 1901, and the wedding of the Hacks did not transpire until the year 1921, thereby dispelling any notion of an earlier union within the confines of the church's walls.
