Overview

For over thirty years the Church of England people of Bracknell worshipped in various buildings and dwellings throughout the district. Bazaars, fairs and other events raised £400 for the building of a church. The site selected was on the top of a hill, so as to give the church a prominence in the township.

The contract to build the church was awarded to Messrs. Bradmore and Pitt and the plans drawn up by Mr. H. S. East. It was expected to accommodate 73 people.

St James' foundation stone was laid by the Ven. Archdeacon D. Blackwood M. A. on the 9th December 1931. The Bishop of Tasmania Dr. R.S. Hay dedicated St James' church in April 1932.

This church was sold in May 2011 and is now in the hands of a private owner.
