St Bedes (Kangaroo Valley Mission Church)

On Sunday, June 16, 1895, the Kangaroo Valley Mission Church was ceremoniously opened by Archdeacon Whitington. This church was originally situated on land located on the opposite side of the road, just below the Lady Franklin Museum. Between 1897 and 1922, the Trustees of Christ College agreed to lease this land for a church at Kangaroo Valley, setting the rent at one shilling per annum for a period of seven years. The church's location was strategically placed above the junction of New Town and Brushy Creek Rivulets, bounded by the New Town Rivulet and Creek Road.

In approximately 1919, the church became a daughter church of St James' New Town. However, when the new landowner, Mr. Beasley, acquired the property, he demanded the church be relocated. Consequently, the building was offered to St John's Parish and subsequently moved to Cressy Street, New Town. Following this move, it became known as St Bede's and served as a daughter church of St John's New Town.
