Overview

The first Anglican church at St Helens was a weatherboard construction built in 1875.

In May 1884 the foundation stone for the new brick building was laid by the Right Rev. Dr. Daniel Fox Stanford, the Bishop of Tasmania. Around 200 hundred people attended the new chosen location fronting on Cecelia Street.

The architect was the well known Henry Hunter, who was Tasmania's prolific Victorian designer. The church was consecrated in February 1886 and new additions of a sanctuary and sacristy were consecrated by Bishop Hay in September 1929.

This church is still in use today.
